Sunset Beach Vacations

Sunset Beach vacations have a common trait, and it's that they evoke memories of childhood, when a holiday was a family time together, not just a collection of days crammed with as much as possible.

Sunset Beach is actually an island, just 3 miles long, located just off the coast of North Carolina. Accessible by bridge, the fact that you are going on to an island is enough in itself to suggest to the mind that you are leaving the stresses and strains of modern life behind you.

The focus of Sunset Beach vacations is one of quiet relaxation. Yes, there are plenty of activities to do nearby on the mainland, but on the island itself you can take your family and you back to the holidays of your childhood.

Paddling about in pools on the beach, making sandcastles, and things which might even seem outrageous in today's world - talking, reading and playing board games!

Between Memorial Day and Labor Day there are daily turtle talks, where you can see and find out about the turtles that nest at Sunset Beach.

There is bird island, an uninhabited barrier island which you will be guided around. A planetarium and coastal museum hark back to days when holiday fun could still be educational.

Most publicity shots you see of Sunset Beach focus on parents having a quiet time with young children. The island works just as well for romantic couples - the key emphasis is on quiet time with whoever is special in your life.

Mentioned earlier was the bridge to the mainland, and this opens up the whole Grand Strand area for your choice. This means you could spend your days golfing or shopping or at theme parks, and be relaxed in the knowledge that at the end of the day you will be returning to your quiet haven of Sunset Beach.

Maybe you could visit the House of Blues, or if you go towards the end of October, you could see the North Carolina Oyster festival, now in its' 28th year!

The Hard Rock Theme Park opened in June 2008, and the nightlife on the mainland is as active as you would expect at any holiday area.

So it's not hard to see why Sunset Beach vacations are so popular amongst those who, in the ever quickening pace of modern life, want a simple back to basics holiday, which you can enjoy at the exclusion of the mainland, or combine the both.
